Dr. Rashmi M. Oza is recipient of Gold Medal for securing First-class-First in Master of Law Degree from Mumbai University. She also pursued her Post-graduate Diploma in Human Rights from University of Mumbai. She has been conferred Doctorate Degree on the topic “Human Rights and Gender Inequalities in India” by Mumbai University. She is NET qualified.
She is presently, Professor and Head, Department of Law, Mumbai University and I/c.Professor,Justice M.C.Chagla Chair on “Human Rights and Civil Liberties” established in the Department of Law, University of Mumbai.She is a recognized Guide for Ph.D. Law students. She is Member of few Committees of the Mumbai University, SNDT University and other Central Govt.Organisations. She has various publications both National and International to her credit.
She practiced in Bombay High Court as an Advocate and Sr. Central Government Counsel for about 12 years and was simultaneously teaching various legal subjects at K.C. Law College, Mumbai.
In July 1998, she had privilege to represent India at the International Institute of Human Rights, Strasbourg, France where she also completed Teachers’ Training Course in Human Rights.
In September 2002, she was the only participant selected from India to participate in Advanced International Training Programme at Sweden, where she presented a paper on ‘Violence against Women in India’ before the Committee Members of United Nations.
In March 2003, she has been awarded International Diploma in Human Rights with distinction, by the “Raoul Wallenberg Institute of Human Rights and Humanitarian Law”, Sweden.
In May 2004, she was invited to represent India and participate in a follow-up Seminar at Beijing, China.
In August 2004. her profile has been selected for publication in Marquis “Who is Who in the World” USA for her outstanding achievements.
In June 2005, she has been listed as the leading Educator of the World and in October 2005, she has been awarded the title of ‘Blue-book Woman of the Year’ by the International Biographical Centre, Cambridge, England.
In June 2009, she was invited as Speaker at the International Conference of Jurists for Judicial Reforms organized by International Council of Jurists and the Hon’ble Society of Lincoln’s Inn, London UK.
In November 2010 and January,2014, she coordinated the UGC sponsored Refresher Course in Human Rights (Interdisciplinary) at Academic Staff College, Mumbai. She has also coordinated UGC sponsored short terms courses on “Gender Studies”at ASC,Mumbai.
In May, 2012 she was conferred “ Shiksha Rattan Puraskar” conferred by the India International Friendship Society, New Delhi; for her outstanding achievement in the field of Education.
Dr. Oza is Chairperson of a registered NGO, “Human Rights Action Group (India)” and conducting awareness programmes in Human Rights and she is also associated with various social organizations working for the cause of under-privileged and vulnerable sections of the society; especially Women and Children.
Dr. Oza is Life Member and National Coordinator of the Jurists Wing of Brahma Kumaris . She is a Resource person for Jurists Conferences held in various parts of India and also for Refresher and Orientation Courses for Teachers conducted by University Grants Commission (UGC).
