Marking the beginning of a new era in research, PU establishes its MICRO-NANO Research and Development Centre, Inaugurated by the hands of Smt. Sunaina Tomar, IAS, Additional Chief Secretary for Higher and Technical Education Department, GoG

Pushing the boundaries of scientific exploration, PU continues to foster innovation and groundbreaking research. With the inauguration of its MICRO-NANO Research & Development Center, a state-of-the-art facility dedicated to nanotechnology and advanced materials, the university has taken a significant leap forward in advancing cutting- edge discoveries. Developed with the support of the Industries Commissionerate, Government of Gujarat, under the Gujarat Industrial Policy 2020, the center was inaugurated by Smt. Sunaina Tomar, IAS, Additional Chief Secretary for Higher and Technical Education Department, Gujarat, and Chairperson of i-Hub.

 

Equipped with world-class technology, the MICRO-NANO R&D Center is designed to drive scientific advancements, industry collaborations, and hands-on skill development. The facility houses sophisticated instruments, including a Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM), X-ray Diffractometer (XRD), Atomic Force Microscope (AFM), RF/DC Magnetron system for thin film coating, a Pin-on-Disc Tribometer, an LCR meter, and a CNC Micromachining setup. This groundbreaking facility will foster interdisciplinary research and innovation across industries such as healthcare, aerospace, renewable energy, and advanced manufacturing, focusing on the development of stronger, lighter, and more sustainable materials.

The vision of the center is to establish itself as a leading hub for research in nanotechnology and advanced materials, bridging the gap between academia and industry while contributing to India’s technological self-reliance. By fostering government-industry-academia partnerships, it aims to create impactful solutions that drive economic growth and sustainability. The center will also serve as a platform for students and researchers to engage in high-quality scientific research, transforming innovative ideas into real-world applications. Speaking on this occasion, Dr. Anand Y. Joshi, Chairperson & Principal Investigator of the MICRO-NANO R&D Center, highlighted the transformative potential of the facility, emphasizing its role in driving impactful research that benefits both industries and society. Dr. Geetika Patel, Vice President (Quality, Research & Health Sciences) of PU, expressed that the establishment of this center is a milestone for Gujarat’s research ecosystem, providing students, researchers, and industries with cutting-edge technology to foster a culture of innovation at every level.

The MICRO-NANO Research & Development Center is set to play a critical role in advancing eco-friendly innovations, contributing to breakthroughs in healthcare, and creating skill development opportunities that empower students and professionals.
