From setting trends in ethnic wear to western collections PU’s design students continue to set standards and have become the latest topic in the city. They have once again begged new titles for the institute and this time around they have taken it to the international stage. Recently a group of budding design students from PU’s Institute of Design took part in the International Fashion Show organized by Montrose Runway Fashion Week & Khadi Council of India which was held in the famous city of Pokhara in Nepal. The students displayed their creative elements through their collection “Vintage to Present” which was inspired by the trends in the industry over the years. Their creative impressions were awarded in the categories of 'Best Design Institute Of The Year' and the 'Best Design Concept Of The Year.'
The skillful students who went forth to represent the institute were Jui Lakhani, Akansha Goswami, Sanskriti Singh, and Ankit Kumar. The 4 designers showcased their garments in front of handle guests who possess decades of experience in the fashion world. This being a grand platform it hosted international designers who showcased 300+ garments imprinting diversity in cultures and perspectives. The platform allowed the students not only to express their unique ideas but also to represent the beauty of india’s heritage. A team of dedicated professors stood by the students to offer them mentorship and guidance in their collections. The students are familiar with some of the country's top ramp shows such as Mumbai Fashion Week and many others. The institution is grooming leaders who will not be influential in the industry but will contribute overall to innovation and sustainability of India and the globe at large.
Additionally, over the past few years the faculty has bagged other awards such as the Best Khadi Concept of 2019 and many more. The Institute has recently enhanced and developed its design infrastructure so as to provide students with a platform where they can excel in design knowledge and understand, also through such infrastructure the students have been able to make use and participate in leading competitions and win such awards. In addition to these platforms, known celebrity designers such as Ruma Devi, Anna Singh visit the campus to interact and exchange their expertise with students. Ankit Kumar one of the students shared that “ this experience was an eye opener for me and my fellow peers to see the great thing that our careers are holding for us, i had an opportunity to interact with prestigious designers from the industry which left me with valuable lessons and motivation to become the better version of myself”
