About Integrated MMS in Heritage Conservation, Planning & Management

Heritage conservation plays a major role in the protection of valuable physical assets, in addition to safeguarding the history, practices, surroundings and personal identity. Due to a spike in disasters and natural calamities, the heritage sites are under a high risk of collapsing or suffering from damage. Talks have been around the corner of including the cultural heritage of communities in the post disaster recovery plan, documenting them on regular basis and recontructing them without changing their original pecularities. The Faculty of Architecture and Planning offers a 2-year integrated MMS program in Heritage Conservation, Planning & Management, which provides students with a comprehensive understanding of the various fundamentals of planning. The students who pursue this program are actively engaged in projects on rural and urban heritage planning, thus creating room for practical significance within the community and the society in general. The curriculum is designed in such a way that it is aimed at providing the students with the most comprehensive understanding of both the national and the global trends in heritage development. Through the department of research and development, the students go on to gain the most worthwhile first-hand knowledge regarding the modern technological trends and innovations which can be utilized in their line of work. In addition, the emphasis is given to developing skills required for formulating solutions, data collection and review of offices, local people, bureaucrats, a compilation of data and its research analysis – both quantitative and qualitative reports, drafting legal documents and logical based decision making amongst others. Such research orientation opens students to a pool of career possibilities, coupled with the fundamental understanding on how to navigate the industry.
