About B.Sc. Blood Bank Technology

The Department of Paramedical and Health Sciences offers a 3 year bachelors degree program in blood bank technology, which seeks to develop effective human resources with the ability to contribute to this medical field. Blood bank technology is a technical based program which is strategically deigned to impart skills relating to the elements in relations to blood groups and the maintenance and organisation of blood storage. The program offers a highly comprehensive  curriculum which does not only develop the theoretical skills of the students but also goes on to enhance their practical skills. The program utilises technical scientific methods for the purpose of blood testing and trains students to assist physicians in the processes of blood transfusion procedures. The syllabus explores the various fields of genetics, immunology, blood group collection, storage and blood transfusion amongst others. As a way of shaping and developing the practical skillsets of the students, the faculty is equipped with state of the art facilities and laboratories which provide the finest exposure to the various areas of blood bank technology. As an added incentive for taking this course, the program also allows the students to practise their learning through the blood bank facility which is provided under the University’s 750 bedded multi-specialty hospital which seeks to train and develop the students’ industrial competencies which are vital towards their employability and service to humanity.

Importance of training based learning in Paramedical and Healthcare sector

Under the Department of Paramedical and Health Sciences, seminars have been organized on regular basis wherein several healthcare professionals and practicing surgeons/clinicians participate on a common platform to discuss the present need and future avenues of skill-based education in paramedical/healthcare sector. Such type of activities are also under pipeline in areas of specialization such as Operation Theatre Assistance, Radiology, Ophthalmology, Emergency Medical Services, Dialysis technology and others in which experts and students will unite on a common platform.

Field Visit to Zydus Hospital and Research Center, Anand, Gujarat

Zydus Hospital is NABH accredited and is said to be one of the best hospitals in the state. The facilities available at Zydus Hospital are highly advanced and host latest instruments in the field of diagnostics and medicine. The Senior Officer for the Facility Management and Senior Executive, Customer Care gave a detailed tour and presentation of the entire facility to the students. The Hospital harbors an OPD complex with specialized laboratories and centers, Renal Dialysis Units, Radiology Department with some of the best-in-class equipments. Besides, the students were also given a detailed understanding of the ICCU units, the Cath Lab, the OT units, the Neonatal Care Units and Patient suites for pre-op and post-op care and recovery. The visit provided a detailed insight into how an NABH accredited hospital functions with all the specialization departments that the students have chosen for their studies.

World Heart Day

In order to create awareness about some simple measures to secure a healthy heart, regular exercise, healthy diet and activities like session of Zumba exercises were kept in the morning. Hundreds of students participated actively in this event. An exhibition of heart healthy diet by students of Nutrition & Dietetics was organized in the campus and was visited by lot of visitors and students. They were counselled regarding adapting a healthy diet by consuming more of fruits and vegetables, whole grains, pulses and legumes in diet and avoid excessive salt and sugar in diet.

Skill Fest

A 3 day State level event with a series of continuous and very relevant skill based workshops was organized at Parul University from 30th January to 2nd Feb. The event saw extraordinary response and participation from more than 700 medical as well paramedical students in Parul University campus as well as from outside campus. The themes of workshops were selected very precisely focusing upon imparting necessary skills to the students in some very important areas like Pediatric & Neonatal Resuscitation, Airway & Bronchoscopy, ECG, Mechanical Ventilation, Basic Radiographic techniques, ABG, X Rays, Cytology in Cancer detection, Basics of perfusion science and many more.
