Dr. Syed Maswood

Prof. Syed Maswood graduated (B.A) in Arts & Humanities from SV University, opted Arabic as his second language. He Completed his Masters (M.A) Program in Economics and Under-Graduate Program (LL.B) from Bhopal University. Thereafter, he completed Masters Program in Law (LL.M) at Cochin University of Science & Technology, Cochin, India; with a Merit Scholarship grant from the University Grants Commission, Government of India during 1986-1987. He was a Member of the Editorial Board for Faculty quarterly Journal “Cochin University Law Journal” for two years. He did his Doctorate (PhD) from Osmania University, Hyderabad, India, in International Maritime Trade Law. He got distinction in PG Diploma in Human Rights and also in P G Diploma in Cyber Laws.

He started his teaching career in 1987 as an Assistant Professor at the BRT Law College Kadapa, India. Later, he joined his parent college, the Osmania Law College, a Muslim Minority Institution, as an Associate Professor & as the Principal (Head of the Department); and served there for 09 years. From 1997 to 1999 he worked as the principal, Ambedkar Law College, Tirupati. Before joining the College of Law, UAE University, he served as a Professor, Head of the Department of Law and the Dean, Faculty of law, M. S. University of Baroda, Vadodara from 2000 to 2007. He is the Founder Director of Baroda School of Legal Studies in 2005, who initiated & introduced Five years Integrated Law Program, for the first time in the State of Gujarat. Presently he is working as a Professor at the Department of Private Law, College of Law, UAE University since 2007.

During his 28 years of Teaching career, Prof. Maswood taught all Commercial/Business Law Courses for Under-graduate and Graduate students. The areas in which he taught are-International Trade Law, Intellectual Property Law, Commercial/Business Law, Law of Arbitration, Company Law, Cyber Laws, Legal Education and Research Methodology, Law of Insurance, Law of Banking, Environment Law, Shipping and Maritime Law, Air, Space & Civil Aviation Law, Human Rights, Humanitarian Law and International Law, Law of Crimes etc.

He is a guide and supervisor for PhD Program at the University of Baroda and Osmania University. Eighteen of his PhD candidates have been so far awarded with PhD degree and six scholars have submitted their thesis and awaiting for their thesis defense. He is an external examiner for PhD in various universities- like- Acharya Nagarjuna University, Guntur, Andhra Pradesh, Aligarh Muslim University, Aligarh, Gujarat National Law School, Gandhi Nagar and also at the University of Kansas, USA.

He actively took part in number of conferences, seminars, symposia and work-shops both at National and International level. As a Dean and Convener, he has organized several National and International Conferences, Seminars, Symposia, Moot Court Competitions and Work-shops. He has so far published 37 research papers in various journals of International repute on various Legal & Socio-legal topics like- IPR, ADR, Human Rights, Environment, International Law and International Trade Law etc. Two research papers are under publication. He has authored three books, made five Book reviews and two Monograms.
